Medieval Wall Paintings, South Leigh
Whilst studying English Local History through the Department of Continuing Education at Oxford University, I had the delight of visiting St James the Greater, South Leigh to see their medieval wall paintings. They were absolutely stunning. St James the Great Church in South Leigh, Oxfordshire, is a Norman parish church known for its exceptional medieval wall…

Oracle Deck Art
I’ve been exploring some designs for an oracle deck based on indigenous English plants and animals. Claude.ai has been incredibly helpful for helping me organise my ideas and breaking the cards into categories that compliment each other. I decided to create a watercolour theme for the images, creating a style which I can use to…

Even Better After the Rain

My Garden, Late May
The roses are starting to bloom and it smells heavenly to sit in the garden. Still lots of things to come, but even in late May it’s delightful. We added a little solar water feature which is pretty much hidden from view (fine), but the sound adds another dimension and is so relaxing.

Moreton-in-Marsh
Took a short 35 minute train ride from Oxford to Morton-in-Marsh, a lovely market town on the edge of the Cotswalds.

Oxford Botanic Garden
Had the opportunity to take an hour during the day and visit the Botanic Garden. I can’t believe how much it’s changed since I was last there a few months ago. The roses have started to bloom, but I think in another week or two it will be even more beautiful. Just had my iPhone…

May Morning (Beltane), Oxford
The May Morning celebration in Oxford is one of the highlights of living here. For over 600 years, both “town and gown” have gathered on High Street to hear the chorus of Magdalen College sing in the official start of the “light half of the year” at 6am in the morning. May Day, or “Beltane”…

Tarot History
I’ve always loved puzzles and mysterious, as well as history and spirituality, so it’s really no surprise that I fell in love with tarot cards. I remember getting my first deck as a 16-year old, the Morgan-Greer tarot, and thinking it was amazing that I might be able to tell the future using these magical…

Krampus
Krampus is a mythical creature from Alpine folklore, often described as a horned, demonic figure with a long tongue and cloven hooves. There are many other versions of him in folklore across of much Europe and the tradition tends to tie into a frightening visitor who comes during winter and threatens naughty children. Krampus traditionally…

Arthur Parkinson on Growing Dahlias
I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to hear the brilliant gardener Arthur Parkinson give a talk at Worton Kitchen Garden in Oxfordshire on growing Dahlias. Bath
Had a wonderful day in Bath. I think it’s probably the most beautiful town in England, but either way it is certainly my favourite. The Roman Spa is amazing to visit, it’s hard to believe that the structure and decorations are nearly 2000 years old, it’s dedicated to the goddess Sulis, Romanised as Sulis-Minerva. The…

Abingdon-on-Thames
Not far from Oxford is the ancient market town of Abingdon-on-Thames. Once one of the most powerful towns in the area and famous for its abbey, the town is a lovely mix of historical buildings from over a thousand years. Bodleian Library, Oxford
The Bodleian Library, established in 1602 by Sir Thomas Bodley, is one of the oldest and most important libraries in Europe. Objects of Use, Oxford
Probably my favourite shop in Oxford. If you have Downton Abbey aesthetics in your soul and think that a hand made brush for cleaning your blinds, a clothe just for waxing your table, or handmade French laundry soap might be something that you could spend an hour or two exploring, this is the place for…
